FIT TO WORK POLICY STATEMENT
1.0. PURPOSE
This Policy outlines one of the commitments of the company to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the company’s employees and others who may be affected by their activities.
A number of Policies/Procedures support this as follows:
Fatigue Management Policy
Alcohol & Drugs Policy
Health & Safety Policy
Occupational Health Procedure
Whatever the circumstances, employees will not be allowed to work if considered unfit to do so.
2.0. SCOPE
The Policy applies to all activities. Fitness to work may be affected by a number of situations:
Fatigue
Illness or bad health
Being under the influence of alcohol or drugs
3.0. RESPONSIBILITY
It is the responsibility of the Directors to ensure that this policy is implemented & adhered to.
4.0. PROCEDURE
4.1. Preventative measures
OMC endeavour to ensure that employees are fit for work by the following methods:
Checking the employees at the start of each shift for signs of fatigue, intoxication or drugs misuse
Encouraging employees to advise management of any concerns with regard to fatigue or ill health
Requiring employees to declare any medication (prescribed or otherwise) which may affect their ability to safely carry out their duties.
Encouraging employees to declare any mental health issues.
Discussing at employee’s annual review any concerns raised either by the employee or the reviewer.
4.2. Reactive measures
OMC will be proactive in addressing issues arising in relation the employee’s fitness to work:
Where appropriate a change of duties or shift patterns may be considered
Make referral to professional advice
Suggest the use of a support group in the instance of drug or alcohol misuse
