WASTE MANAGEMENT  POLICY

The purpose of this Policy is to describe the processes involved in the management of waste generated by the company’s activities.

2.0       SCOPE

This procedure applies to all activities which may generate waste.

3.0       RESPONSIBILITY

The overall responsibility for managing waste lies with the Directors of the company.  The QHSE Advisor will assist in identifying areas where waste can be eliminated, reused or recycled.  It is the responsibility of all personnel to follow this procedure and bring to the attention of the partners any opportunities to improve the management of waste where identified.

Where applicable, the Quantity Surveyor will ensure that bill of materials required is as accurate as possible.

4.0       PROCEDURE

Wherever possible, materials will be segregated on site prior to re-use or removal. OMC does not handle contaminated waste.  If requirements change, then this will be re-assessed.

OMC retain a Waste Carriers Licence and this will be renewed prior to the expiry date.

4.1.      Elimination

The most effective way to reduce waste is to eliminate that waste at source.  This can be achieved in a number of ways, for example:

  • By ensuring accurate measurements are taken for the use of materials

  • Ordering only the amount of materials required for the job

  • By ordering materials to the length or volume required, reducing off-cuts and overspill.

4.2.      Re-use

Where waste cannot be totally eliminated, opportunities for re-use of waste will be identified.  Examples may be:

  • Re-use of wood after de-nailing (e.g. shuttering)

  • Re-use of doors and windows

4.3.      Recycle

Where elimination or re-use is not practical, OMC will use a licensed recycling centre for waste materials reducing the requirement for disposal to landfill.

Targets for re-use and recycling may be set from time-to-time or on a project specific basis.
